What is it like to study in Lithuania?
All study programmes taught in English in Lithuania are assessed with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and receive each year of studying 60 ECTS credits. University degrees consist of three cycles
the first cycle is an undergraduate (Bachelor's)
the second cycle is graduate (Master's, and/or specialised professional studies)
the third one is postgraduate (PhD/Doctoral, residency, postgraduate in the Arts)
Bachelor's degrees and professional qualifications are available at universities; professional qualifications, but not degrees, can be studied at colleges. The academic year begins in September and concludes in mid-June and consists of two semesters – spring and autumn. Students may choose to study full-time or part-time.
If you are in the second cycle stage (or wish to be there) and wish to continue studying for a Master's degree and/or a specialist professional qualification, one of the possibilities available to you is the Integrated study programmes. Integrated study programmes integrate university studies of the first and second cycles. The successful graduates receive a Master's Diploma which attests to their Master's degree status.
Practice
Lithuanian higher education institutions are concerned with providing students with the skills they require in order to implement their knowledge in a practical manner. As such, students can pursue educational, professional or scientific practices locally and abroad. Practical involvement opportunities include the following:
EU programmes, including Erasmus (Higher Education) and Comenius (for prospective teachers).
IAESTE, an international, non-profit association which implements an exchange programme for students at technical universities, involving students from 86 countries and more than six thousand companies worldwide. In Lithuania, Kaunas University of Technology act as a representative.
Student organisations, such as AIESEC.
It is not very unusual to go directly to the companies and request opportunities for unpaid work experience. This will highly enhance your CV and even provide you with practical knowledge, which you will find useful when you are being considered for a permanent role.
